Today is National Punctuation Day. Jeff Rubin created it to celebrate the elegance a well-placed comma or correctly used semi-colon brings to a sentence. In addition to listing resources with punctuation hints, the website has punctuation products like T-shirts, greeting cards, educational posters and a punctuation-themed latte mug only a dedicated editor could love.

Rubin wants schools, offices and libraries to organize punctuation activities to celebrate the day. Like running the 50-yard hyphen -- I mean dash. Dashes are longer and perform a different function.

The 6th National Punctuation Day features a baking contest. For fun, Rubin's friends make meat loaf in the shape of a semi-colon or send him photographs of poorly punctuated and misspelled signs. I wonder if he knows the party animals over at National Grammar Day?
